THE BEAUTY AND/or THE human BEASTly action

Image credits: Thanks to Geoff Teehan for the iPhone 4 tools, Fabien Egot for the photo from Monaco. Background from the Euston Flyer Pub in London.

Saturday. I went out with my friends and it was one of the days that the conversation went too far that we couldn't know how to end it.

This time we went to have dinner in a vegetarian restaurant together and then we went to a pub or somewhere we can listen to good music and talk. This time was talking the preference.

At one point of the night I took off my iPhone from my purse and John, my biologist friend (against anything related to the non-degradable materials) asked me what was from the picture I had for wallpaper in the iPhone. I told him that it was from Monaco. Anne, John's girlfriend and Juridical Assessor of Ambient Law (or something like that) immediately told us that Monaco was one of the enemies of nature and coast legal procedures (or something like that). I wanted to show her the photo but she refused because he knew what kind of photo was. For her the most ugly, insensitive, and outrageous photo that a photographer could take. As you can see, she is really into nature stuff protection. She likes photography and she takes (amateur) nature sceneries and human actions protests. (Now you know why John and Anne meet).

I didn't know what to do or say. For me it was a beautiful photo. Great exposure. Great lights. Perfect moment. Perfectly framed.

Then, Anne tried to explain why this sort of photos are not as beautiful as we thing they are. She said that nature needs more space than the humanity does. So, when a human tries to enlarge their proprieties and goods means that other human has to reduce their space of living. However, this is not happening, nature has limits. What it happens is the more one person wants the more another want until reaches some point that the ones who have more take advantage from others taking their goods, so the ones who do not have much, they have less. And in that way there's a huge difference between rich and poor people. For her, capitalism is the reason.

At that point, when Anne mentioned capitalism, Paul, the economist of the group, could not remain silent any more. He quickly said that in so many ways capitalism has become one of the most productive solutions for the Twentieth century. Capitalism has been the engine of exporting and importing different goods to one country to another. And he made us reflect about the dinner we had eaten. He said that we couldn't had the chance to eat in that vegetarian restaurant if were not capitalism. Globalization made capitalism just grow. And to sum up, he continued, capitalism had always existed, in one way or another.

Conversation continued flying at the same way all time referring to that topic and other related to. It was actually really interesting see what were the opinions of my friends and how they were convincing the others to support their theories. Quite entertaining for Henry, the sociologist of the group.
I think this night we all went home thinking about things that world does not take much attention but actually rather important. What do you think about it?

Quite unexpected night, mainly because all started with a photo of Monaco from my iPhone.

iPhone4 cases

Since I had the iPhone4 I was really worried about how to protect the beautiful glass-aluminium device. Then, I went to a store that provide me any case I could need for it, and I have tried three of them, open, semi-open and close cases.
So, here there are some of the cases, what I think about their functionality and if they really work well for the daily needs.

Open cases
Advantages:
   - almost full protection when not using it
   - friendly ports when using it
   - not bulky, so gets its beautiful shape
   - easy slip
   - prevents from scratches over surfaces
Disadvantages:
   - no protection when using it
   - no protection on the top of it when it's not in use
   - only can used one of the ports when it's inside the case
(or listening to music, or charging)

                Conclusion: Recommended
                                    *****

                                                      Semi-open cases
Advantages:
   - almost full protection when not using it

   - friendly ports when using it
(with Bumper only can be used the Apple plug to charge)
   - not very bulky
   - pretty easy slip
   - prevents scratches over surfaces because of the 2mm case
Disadvantages:
   - no back nor front fully protection
   - some people has realised that it scratches a bit of the aluminium
(in my case it have not)

Conclusion: Recommended
      *****

                                                      Close cases
                                                      Advantages:
   - back protection
   - friendly ports (headphones minijack, 30-pin dock connector, mic)
   - some are not bulky (thick plastic)
   - easy slip
   - transparent
Disadvantages:
   - when making a picture with flash it gets blur and upper lighted
      (very bad!)
   - non aluminum protection
     - some are made of rubber, so it gets difficult to get out of pockets
   - some are made of very robust material, it makes it bulky

Conclusion: Not quite recommended
  *****

Other protections
Advantages:
   - full screen protection from scratches
Disadvantages:
   - some of them get finger prints which original screen does not

                    Conclusion: Very recommended
                                        *****

Differences

With the occasion of the new Apple September '10 Keynote; which, as usually, was about music products of Apple Inc. I wanted to fill the points to the list of the differences between the iPhone and the new (sept. '10) iPod Touch. And, as seen on the first time both gadgets (2007), I wanted to make an update*.

DIFFERENCES IN 2008
- There is no email client on the iPod Touch
- There is no Maps application on the iPod Touch
- There are no Stocks or Weather widgets on the iPod Touch
- There is no built-in camera for the iPod Touch
- There are no Blutooth capabilities for the iPod Touch
- The iPod Touch has a differently styled "Dock," with a reflective surface -- akin to the Dock that will debut with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
- While the iPod Touch is sleeping, the user can tap the home button twice to bring up touch controls on the screen -- a feature the iPhone currently lacks
- The iPod Touch has a separate Contacts app -- it's built into the Phone application on the iPhone
- The iPod Touch has separate Video and Music apps, whereas the iPhone has a single "iPod" app that contains these functions
- There is apparently (and obviously) no microphone on the iPod Touch, though it will be interesting to see if such audio-in capabilities could be enabled via a third-party device.
- The iPod touch's headphone jack is on the bottom of the device
- The iPod touch lacks a built-in external speaker
- The iPod touch's screen appears to be of a slightly higher quality than the iPhone, with 163 pixels per inch to the iPhone's 160 pixels per inch.

DIFFERENCES IN 2010

- There is no phone availability on the iPod Touch.

So there it goes, by now the only difference between iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch is the carrier contract.

iOS 5? iPhone 5? Tan pronto?

iPhone 5 for October?
