Earn, spend; earned, spent

Image: composition made with parts from psdgraphics.

When we are kids, we grow up, at least me, by the “a penny saved, a penny earned”. Our parents taught us to be aware about what we do with our money, although not having many pennies earned. All the “big” amount of money we had was from our grands and family give-aways. Christmas, birthdays and a few other occasions made our pocket-account a bit more adult. Children are easy to surprise and the few pennies you give them is such a great treasure. Buying the first gum or the first lolly is that exciting as feeling the adult world.

When we looking forward to turn adulthood world, and by that I mean earn real-job worth money, we get mad. We compare the first “big amount” we had when we were a child and the new one, we just blow up. Our likes changes in time and it does also the cost of the items we buy.

We earn money, we spend money, then we earn more money and of course we spend it, and it spins all over again until the circle stops in earnings. When there is no more incomes, what we should do? Dad and Mum taught us how to save our “earned” money, but not what happens after having a zero o red numbers bank-account when all the money earned is spent and no job on the way. Of course they told us: “When there is no money left, there is no more money left”. Thank you, that helped when the money was just for buying some candies, but not when we have to pay the everyday food and there is no more incomes.

And there comes when we struggle and try plans to recover what we had, bank credits, mortgage... Therefore, we actually realise what it costs the independent adulthood life.

2011 Series

2. Mystery Tweets: (in English) This will be a story. Every last Monday of the month will be published a post of a chapter of the story. It will last until you say so or when there is nothing to tell any more.

Each story begins with a "to be continued...-mysterious" tweet at my Twitter's account (@emmafiegert) at 12:00 am of the day before the publication. The beginning of each one will be having a length of 140 characters, the maximum allowed in this social network. And since it is a very small capacity to write an entire chapter and explain a particular story, the person can access to the rest of the story through this Blog.

So, these are unfinished Tweets, which are born with the morbid curiosity (in my Twitter) and end with the desire satiated (in my blog) or wanting for more (comment on my blog + waiting for another story) ;)

(They will be stories of my lifetime in London - then and now -)

Are you in?

mist?

Sometimes I feel that knowing less languages could help the comprehension of the people around me. And by that, I mean I could be less tempted to make confusion and mixture of word meaning.

Some days ago I found a new gum flavor by Orbit. The first time I saw it I laughed a lot or at least it didn't tent me to buy it. If the name of new new flavor in the box have been a little bit tinier, maybe I'd have not been so shocked.

For the ones who speak or know English in the new gum Orbit's flavour means just "foggy senses" or "quite feeling while chewing the gum". Well, for the ones who speak or know a bit of German sure you'll get that funny-tricky-possible-misunderstanding! If not, I'll explain: for German people there's no such thing of speaking with "ugly words". So they try to say things with much more politeness, but meaning the same feeling. In other words, they try to be a bit diplomatic. However, well it has to be admitted that nowadays not everybody really use this way of saying "ugly words". There are still a lot of people who don't care about being correct, they just spread the words as the way they come. They say, language must be natural and sharing what exactly means a person make the social community cleaner to useless and empty words. Nowadays it is not only the case of new German generations but also to any other country (but in a bigger percent).

In any case, what you read in this picture, for German people, mean "Orbit's dung" or "manure". Maybe the only way to not think about it is the lowercase letter. That means that it is not a noun, because in German nouns are written in capital letters. So wherever you want to think you'll be chewing for the time being of the chewing-gum "dung" or a "pleasure quite and relaxing fog" in you mouth.
